Caleb Saunders

Caleb is a barrister employed by Mai Chen advising across a wide range of public law issues.
Caleb has particular expertise at the commercial/regulatory interface with public law.
Caleb also has experience in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, the Marine and Coastal Area (Takutai Moana) Act, commercial/regulatory advice and disputes, Overseas Investment Act, parliament and law reform, administrative law and judicial review. Caleb has appeared as junior counsel in the High Court, and will make his first appearance in the Court of Appeal in May 2023.
Prior to becoming a barrister, Caleb previously worked as a Senior Associate at Chen Palmer, as a government solicitor in London and for a leading commercial firm in New Zealand. He has advised private clients in a range of interactions with government and other regulatory bodies, and some statutory entities.
